Heute hat OnwardMobility auf ihrer Website eine Stellungnahme veröffentlicht.

Wie schon seit einigen Tagen spekuliert wurde, wird darin offiziell bekannt gegeben, dass OnwardMobility eingestellt und die Entwicklung eines sicheren Smartphones mit physischer Tastatur nicht mehr fortgesetzt wird.

Wieder Lebenszeichen von OnwardMobility

Viel zu lange gab es keine Informationen von OnwardMobility bezüglich des schon für 2021 angekündigten BlackBerry 5G oder zu ihren Aktivitäten selbst.

Neuigkeiten gab es nur spärlich von Personen, die einer strengen Verschwiegenheitserklärung unterliegen, nur vage etwas mitteilen konnten und offiziell oft nur ihre persönliche Einschätzung wiedergegeben haben.

Nun endlich hat sich OnwardMobility gemeldet und mitgeteilt, dass es das Unternehmen noch gibt und nicht tot ist, wie vielfach schon vermutet wurde.

Nachfolend die Mitteilung im Original:

To all of you who have patiently waited so long for updates from OnwardMobility, we are humbly aware that we owe you some form of communication as we enter 2022. And to misquote Mark Twain, as so many do, “Contrary to popular belief, we are not dead.”

We’ve read all your Facebook and LinkedIn comments, articles, Tweets, email messages and more, and not only do we understand your frustration, but we genuinely share it. Everyone has eagerly awaited additional information following our last announcement, but 2021 was truly a challenging year to launch a new phone, much less one with the high expectations we set and the fact that we want to get it right!

While we encountered various delays that prevented us from shipping in 2021, we will be providing more regular updates starting this month that will clarify and answer many of your questions about the ultra-secure 5G enterprise smartphone (still with a keyboard!) we’re bringing to market.

All of us at OnwardMobility are incredibly grateful for the community of loyal users for this opportunity. To the media: we’ll be ready to deliver news and speak with you soon and we look forward to it.

We sincerely apologize for our silence and truly appreciate your patience. In the meantime, we wish everyone a healthy start to the New Year!

Am 19. August 2020 hat das Unternehmen OnwardMobility überraschend angekündigt, im ersten Halbjahr 2021 ein BlackBerry 5G auf den Markt bringen zu wollen.

Leider ist das angekündigte Device bislang nicht erschienen. Eine Stellungnahme von OnwardMobility zu den Gründen blieb bis heute aus.

Vor circa vier Wochen wurde dann ein Pre-Commitment-Programm angekündigt. Und pünktlich zum Jahrestag der Ankündigung des BlackBerry 5G erhielten Interessenten am Programm eine Anmeldebestätigung:

Vermarktung des BlackBerry 5G ab August 2021?

Seit gestern schwirren Gerüchte durch Twitter und ein BlackBerry-Forum, die auf eine Vermarktung des BlackBerry 5G ab August 2021 schließen lassen.

So soll der nordamerikanische Telekommunikationskonzern AT&T das von OnwardMobility angekündigte BlackBerry 5G ab August 2021 vermarkten.

Bestätigungen seitens AT&T sollen auf Nachfrage diesbezüglich erfolgt sein, in den Foren lassen sich auch Screenshots von AT&T-Kunden finden, die bei dem Unternehmen direkt nachgefragt haben:

Seitens OnwardMobility ist noch keine Bestätigung über die Echtheit der Informationen erfolgt. Ich selber habe OnwardMobility gestern angeschrieben und nachgefragt, ob sie bestätigen können, dass das BlackBerry 5G ab August 2021 von AT&T vermarktet wird, allerdings noch keine Antwort erhalten.

OnwardMobility hat auf seinem Blog bekannt gegeben, dass sie ihr globales Verkaufsteam erweitert haben.

So sind mit Géraud Boutibonnes und Matthew McFee zwei Verantwortliche hinzugekommen.

Ankündigung: Neues BlackBerry 5G Smartphone in 2021

Damit haben wohl die wenigsten gerechnet: Für 2021 ist ein neues BlackBerry 5G Smartphone angekündigt worden!

Dies teilte Peter Franklin, CEO von OnwardMobility via YouTube und in einer Presseerklärung mit:

Viel ist von dem neuen BlackBerry noch nicht bekannt. Lediglich, dass es sich um ein 5G-Smartphone mit physischer Tastatur und Android handelt.

Grundlage für das neue Gerät ist eine Vereinbarung zwischen BlackBerry, der auf nutzerfreundliche und sichere mobile Endgeräte spezialisierten US-Firma OnwardMobility und der Foxconn Tochtergesellschaft FIH.

Somit bleibt zu hoffen, bald weitere Details über das Device zu erfahren.
